GOLD 2017 Strategy Report

The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) Strategy Report has been updated and the 2017 version is available now. The aim of the GOLD Strategy Report is to provide a non-biased review of the current evidence for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with COPD that can aid the clinician.1

One of the major updates in the GOLD 2017 Strategy report is that the COPD assessment criteria have been refined to create the new ABCD assessment tool. This new format uses the patient’s symptoms and exacerbation history only, and no longer considers lung function (FEV1) data to determine the choice of therapies. This may facilitate more tailored COPD therapy recommendations, which have also been revised.1
